Diversity, equity, and inclusion at work and in our communities are complex and multifaceted topics. The challenges and opportunities associated with pursuing more diverse, equitable, and inclusive companies and communities are vast and themselves diverse. These considerations encompass issues such as pay equity, discrimination, a spirit of belonging, representation in leadership, individual biases, and systemic inequities. Businesses play one of the most critical roles in working toward meaningful progress.

Diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces and communities flourish - they lift up and are enriched by all of their members. Pursuing equity is good for all of us.

For the 2024 DEI Grow the Good in Business™ Case Competition, the case addresses one aspect related to the much broader topic of DEI. Students participating in the Case Competition will be tasked with examining the rise of private equity in health care and its role in addressing health disparities and ultimately health equity. Mendoza recognizes that DEI involves meaningful steps toward implementing ideas for change, in partnership with stakeholders. To that end, the community-based research the students generate through the competition will be made available to Case Competition sponsors for their possible use.

We recognize the opportunities and challenges in this space are complex and ongoing. As a result, this year’s DEI Grow the Good in Business Case Competition is one of many ways the Mendoza College of Business looks forward to engaging around many of the issues of equity and inclusion through our courses and programming in the future.
